Am Tacheles Berlin – Office Building “Screen”

The Am Tacheles urban quarter marked the completion of one of Berlin’s last major vacant lot. Based on the master plan by Herzog & de Meuron, a new area for living, working, shopping, dining, and culture has emerged around the former Tacheles art center in the Mitte district. Our office completed two residential buildings and one office building within this ensemble. On Oranienburger Straße, the „Screen“ office building frames the entrance to Aaron-Bernstein-Platz, thereby playing a prominent role in the urban fabric. The new building responds to its dynamic setting—characterized by tourism and traffic—by opening up to the public space with a clearly defined edge and an inviting ground-floor area. A café links public and private realms, activating the building beyond regular office hours. Large windows and a clean-lined façade structure give the building a strong presence in the urban landscape.
