“Where the Lemons Glow – Villa Massimo in Weimar”
From 23 to 26 July 2026, Weimar hosted, for the first time, a festival of art and cultural events bringing together Rome Prize fellows from two consecutive years of the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo. Under the title “Where the Lemons Glow – Villa Massimo in Weimar,” 22 Rome Prize fellows from 2024/25 and 2025/26, working in architecture, art, literature and composition, presented their work at renowned partner institutions and in public spaces throughout the city. The opening weekend marked the launch of the festival, with the exhibitions remaining on view in Weimar for several months afterwards.

Exhibition at MBooks Weimar – Perforations – 23.7.–5.9.2026
“Rome captivates through its grand gestures, but equally through unexpected moments and juxtapositions – between past and present, stone and roots. For Grüntuch Ernst Architekten, their time at Villa Massimo offered a space for concentration and creative reflection, enriched by the intensity of new impressions gathered in Rome. In the Eternal City, layers of time overlap, traces of culture and nature intertwine, and beauty reveals itself in both depth and lightness. The exhibition brings together observations collected over several months in the form of photographic sketches, condensing these perforations of space and time into a kaleidoscope of perceptual moments.”

Exhibition at ACC Galerie Weimar – Perforations – 24.7.–4.10.2026
“Perforations, a photographic, video and spatial installation by Grüntuch Ernst Architekten, brings together a multitude of perceptual fragments in a kaleidoscopic installation. Fragments and snapshots capture individual visual and spatial experiences from their time at Villa Massimo, alongside designs, ideas and perspectives engaging with contemporary architectural questions. Rome served as both a source of inspiration and a space for reflection and resonance: its overlapping layers of time, the interweaving traces of culture and nature, and the depth and lightness of its beauty have shaped the city for millennia and continue to inspire creative thought today.”
