Monbijouplatz 5 Berlin

With its curved façade, the residential and commercial building forms the end of the historic block on Oranienburger Straße and Monbijouplatz. The transparent building envelope is structured by surrounding horizontal parapet bands with glass mosaics and a fine layer of vertical glass louvres. These filter the view out onto the city, visually condensing depending on the location and immersing the interior in a dynamic play of light and shadow. All common rooms are located along the façade and receive direct daylight. For this purpose, the daylight-independent ancillary rooms and circulation zones were moved into the depth of the floor plan and are concentrated along the long, windowless rear façade of the building. The flats on the upper floors are partly designed as maisonettes, which extend into the outdoor space with surrounding terraces.
